The Kidproof Art Of Bribing Your Kids And Tips To Encourage Good Behavior

Because parenting is all about plans and guidelines.

One of the biggest struggles of being a parent is getting your child to behave. There aren’t many kids in the world (or even in the history of the world) who have behaved well one hundred percent of the time just out of the goodness of their own hearts.

It’s not that kids are evil, it’s just that they don’t fully understand the world yet. And they can be willful little devils. So how do you get your child to behave when they have ideas of their own that don’t include listening to a word that you say?

Well, that’s an age old question in the world of parenting, and it’s one that doesn’t have a definite answer. Every kid is different, every parent is different, and every relationship between the two is, you guessed it, different.

That said, over the years, the centuries, the millennia, that people have been struggling to find the best way to be a parent, some bits of advice have cropped up. Here’s a handful for you, hopefully they can be illuminating and helpful.

1. Follow Through

This is a hard thing to do for a lot of parents, but if you’ve promised a punishment for inappropriate behavior, then you have to follow through with it.

Sophie might be absolutely adorable, and it might break your heart to see her crying, but you have to put her in timeout when she steals a cookie from the pantry.

If you don’t follow through on punishments, your children won’t ever believe a thing you say, and they’ll start to walk all over you.
